Year of Jewelry ~ Week 26........and how I have spent my summer so far and why I am so far behind

Image
This was my offering for Week 26. Once again...not following the prompts,  which are just suggestions..... if you are stuck for inspiration... so it's OK☺ I love the colors in this and I will absolutely be keeping this for ME! This is my first wrap bracelet but I don't think it will be my last, these are fun!  (just a little difficult to photograph☺) I am currently about three weeks behind on the YOJP but now that the yard work pretty much consists of watering,  I think I can make some progress towards catching up☺ With the record setting temps we have been having this summer (I love being able to wear shorts and flip flops more than three or four days a year...seriously...no kidding) my new garden area is happy ~ happy!! Left side ~ Strawberries            Right side ~ Jalapeno peppers They are happy in their little house. Can you tell which ones got munched by the moose babies? Left side ~ Bush ...

Year of Jewelry ~ Week 24

Image
Ok - just so we're clear;  I know my last YOJP post was for Weeks 19 & 20. I am still playing catch up. (I did Week 21 also, I just neglected to blog about it. My bad) AND, as you know, I don't always follow the prompt for the weekly theme, but I am actually skipping 22 & 23 (for now) to post for Week 24. The theme is "Commitment". This seemed to fit the theme on so many levels☺ lol. The pendant was actually  my entry for   Week 11  "Rescued From the Scrap Bin" I was determined that I would actually DO something with the pendant so that it didn't have to spend another two years waiting. ~Commitment~ I had seen a necklace design in the February 2013 issue of  Jewelry Stringing. The design was a winner of the 2012 Bead Star Contest for the "stones" category and was designed by Darcy Alice. As usual, I didn't follow the pattern exactly, (do I ever?!) I re-did the side on the right TH...

just random ~ ish-ness

Sooo, I haven't posted in a few weeks and I'm OK with that. I'm behind on my YOJP pieces, and I'm OK with that. I have veggies growing in the raised beds that I built and the moose have only nibbled a few of the plants The little one has a taste for broccoli and jalapeno pepper plants ~ go figure☺  but they haven't completely destroyed anything yet.  Which is seriously  Awesome! We have had the weirdest weather I can ever remember. (I have been in Alaska for 21 years now) Two winters ago we had record amounts of snow. (they ran out of places to put it all and it is illegal to dump it in the ocean) Last summer we had the coolest July on record (the entire summer pretty much sucked, we only  had about 2 or 3 days above 70 the entire summer) This last winter we broke the record for the  "longest snow season" meaning the longest stretch between the first snow fall of the season and the last snow fall of the season.  ...

the hard work is done.....for now

If you've been around for a while, you may recall that last summer we did a little yard work☺ You can read a little about it here Essentially, we completely started over with our yard. The only section that we didn't complete was this one Unfinished raised bed area - Aug 2012 This is the area we tackled this year. So, on Mother's Day weekend we started.... Honey made 4 trips with this bad boy and we ended up with 20 yards of gravel. This is May 11 and you will notice there are no leaves...any where:( Let me tell you that is a lot of gravel folks☺ Well I shoveled and shoveled (and no, Honey doesn't shovel). I have had very bad luck with delivered bulk top soil,  it always seems to be really poor quality, as in ~ nothing will grow:( so for these beds we went with a mix of "garden soil" and "potting soil" in the bags so the next day Honey went and got the first of the soil. 48 - 2cu ft bags. (those pup...

Year of Jewelry ~ Weeks 19 & 20 ~ and some other random things..................

Image
For week 19, I once again did not follow the prompt, which was "Your Favorite Flower". My favorite flower is the "Swingtime" fuchsia  This picture is from 2010 It is just so fluffy and happy looking☺ I still plan on trying my hand at making some polymer clay fuchsia but for week 19, I was busy with a custom order. A new customer of mine had a beach stone that she picked up while overseas many years ago.  It has special meaning to her and she asked if I could "do something" with it. I was a little nervous about whether or not she would like it,  but then again, I always am. She picked it up today and lets just say ~she's a hugger~ WHEW!☺ For Week 20, I did follow the prompt, which was "Made in 10 Minutes" Which was lucky cuz that's about how much time I had. I think I could have gotten one more pair done, but my area is so messed up it took FOREVER to find the copper ear wires, and I ran out o...

Year of Jewelry ~ Week 18

Image
I'm only a few days late in posting this. Still trying to get caught up☺ The theme for Week 18 was  "Pantone 2013" This necklace is a similar design to the one I made for Week 4, ( the one that found a new home ) This one has the addition of leather, which I really like. I was able to incorporate several of the Pantone Spring colors: Emerald, African Violet, Lemon Zest, Monaco Blue, Tender Shoots and Linen.

Hello Internet ~ I've missed you☺

Image
Be warned... I'm feeling a bit chatty☺ So.... A few  weeks ago Hubby decided  that he needed faster internet. (we really don't, but he thinks we do. If it's available he's got to have it) (I seriously think it's a guy thing.  What.ever.) So a couple of weeks ago they came out to upgrade the  lines so we could get the faster speeds, per my husband's request.  They did the "outside work" on Tuesday the 23rd and they would be out on Saturday to do the "inside work". After they were done messing with the wiring on Tuesday (while we were both at work) we had NO internet connection. I was patient ~ Hubby was apologetic and we waited until Saturday, at which time we found out that we had the wrong wiring coming  from the "source" to the house and that they don't do anything "structure to structure" so WE would have to run the correct wiring before they could proceed. (Apparently the guys tha...
