Sooo, I haven't posted in a few weeks and I'm OK with that. I'm behind on my YOJP pieces, and I'm OK with that. I have veggies growing in the raised beds that I built and the moose have only nibbled a few of the plants The little one has a taste for broccoli and jalapeno pepper plants ~ go figure☺  but they haven't completely destroyed anything yet.  Which is seriously  Awesome! We have had the weirdest weather I can ever remember. (I have been in Alaska for 21 years now) Two winters ago we had record amounts of snow. (they ran out of places to put it all and it is illegal to dump it in the ocean) Last summer we had the coolest July on record (the entire summer pretty much sucked, we only  had about 2 or 3 days above 70 the entire summer) This last winter we broke the record for the  "longest snow season" meaning the longest stretch between the first snow fall of the season and the last snow fall of the season.  ...

Latest weather & THANK GOD IT'S FRIDAY

Just thought I would share our latest weather.  AAARRRGGGG! If you've been around a while, you know I love Alaska. I just love it ALOT MORE in the summer;~) Keep in mind that we had NO snow on the ground when I went to bed last night. Not because it had melted, mind you. It has been in the single digits or minus for the last week. No. We didn't have any snow because it blows away almost as soon as it stops coming down. In our neck of the woods in the winter the wind BLOWS. So...when I got up and looked out the window this morning we had  about 10" of new snow, by the time I got home from work the snow was trying to blow  up over the hood of my FULL SIZE Tahoe as I was coming up the drive way. Honey estimates about 15" so far and it's still snowing like crazy. They predict another 4" before it "tapers off" tonight. I'm just very thankful that I don't have to drive anywhere for the  next two days, today was horrible. On the other hand Honey ...

What exactly is a Snarf?

Image
A little bit of  random..... My babies spend a lot of their time patrolling the floor for ANYTHING edible, ( then there is Lily who usually goes right for either paper towels, toilet paper or kleenex,  it doesn't matter which, just whatever is accessible ) but I digress... My baby Scoobie Doo Anywhoooo.. when they are patrolling they make this sound.  It's not a simple sniffing sound,  it's more of a snort.  It's almost as if they have discovered something edible on an anatomical level  and if they sniff  hard enough they can separate it from the floor. The word I immediately think of is "Snarf" and yes it has a capital "S" in my brain. And you may be asking yourself "Why do you think of the word "Snarf" with a capital S?" Well, 'cause it's actually a brain-tumbling-over-it's-self domino effect.   The actual first thing that comes to my mind is Dr. Seuss, 'cause the sound that comes out of the kids while...

Just because I knew it was coming doesn't mean I have to be happy it's here. On the other hand, my Honey has been waiting months to do this. Had to wait until after the first snow to burn THE wood pile☺ "Alaska's heaviest annual snowfall - 974.5 inches (25 meters) at Thompson Pass near Valdez, winter of 1952-53." I know I shouldn't complain, considering the Lower 48 and Canada  are nearly baking in the summer heat, but I am getting a little tired of clouds and rain and 50 some degrees.   I need some sunshine;~( On the upside the flora that the wildlife hasn't dined on  is liking the rain. I think I will take care of some cleaning and bill paying, then take advantage of the bad weather and play with the clay;~) Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Is It Spring YET?

This blog is supposed to be primarily about Polymer Clay. Lately I have been spending alot of time on other subjects and I am trying to curb that. That being said, I bring you another post about the WEATHER. I can't help it. I just got back from walking the dogs. Alot of people, when you say walking the dogs, they picture a little trip down the sidewalk with a lease in one hand and a plastic bag in the other. Well, I do have one dog on a leash, but there is no need for a plastic bag and there are no sidewalks, JUST THIS. After the super deep freeze we had, then the thaw, we are now back to "normal" weather for Alaska in January. Which, in my neck of the woods means, temps in the teens and a nasty wind with wind chills of usually below zero. Oh, and did I mention the wind acts kind of like a zamboni on the ice? Well, I gotta tell ya. Diamonds aren't this girl's best friend. This winter (and several in the past) my best friends are: THE FACE THING and THE SP...

Weather, Weather, Weather

I love where I live............. most of the time. My daily commute is about 45 miles each way. And I hate driving in the winter. The bad cold front that is sitting over the lower 48 right now spent almost 2 weeks parked over us until about 3 days ago. Most of the time I consider the super cold weather to be kind of a trade off. I love snow, but I hate driving in it and when it gets REALLY cold the roads have a tendency to "freeze dry". After the first day or two, between the sanding and the traffic the highways are usually down to dry pavement. So, it may be cold, but at least you can commute to work without being one giant knotted up nerve when you get there. This last cold spell didn't work out that way. Almost everyday we had ice fog, so every nicely rutted section of highway that normally makes me nervous, TERRIFIED me. (Some of those ruts will suck you in and spit you out the other side so fast you won't know what got ya). Now, over the course of less tha...
