this year's crop and a ray of sunshine

Image
You might remember back in June, after the baby moose and rabbit attacks, I had one remaining cauliflower plant. I didn't mention it back then, but I also had two tomato plants in those 'topsy turvy' planters on my front deck along with a single pepper plant. ( I had a fantasy of making a couple jars of my own salsa.) Wellllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll....................  both tomato plants came down with blight.  They died. The pepper plant DID produce 1 pepper (so far).  It does have 4 blossoms on it currently but I don't know if there is enough time for them to fully grow before the weather turns. As for the single cauliflower plant, it was coming along slowly, due to the 32 straight days of rain we have had here in Alaska. ( This has been a record setting summer.  We have had the coolest and wettest summer ever recorded.  Someone even figured out that if you took all the rain we have had since Memorial Day and converted it to snow we would have 14 fee...

my current addiction and other random stuff

Image
My current addiction seems to be making pendants (see crappy picture below) Some with alcohol inks, but most with image transfer, I certainly haven't mastered it, but I'm getting WAAAY better at it. (see crappy picture above) These still need their bails. And when I go to make a necklace, even just a single one,  I always seem to end up with this. You see... I have yet to organize my beads. They are not organized by color or by size or by material. They are just perfectly random, and since I don't have the patience or time to organize right now, I have started trying to build more than one necklace at a time, sorta.... While I have my boxes of randomness spread out on the floor all around me, I kind of pick out what I want to go with each pendant.  Not necessarily the AMOUNTS  I will use, just the KIND I think I will use. I just toss a few of each kind in a little box with the pendant so when I get ready to string it I can just go straight to the sto...

Introducing....

Image
the new love of my life ;~) How could you not be totally in love with someone that is  THAT happy?? Sir Whitekeys is from Melodia.  He was born and raised in the Stringdom Region, but since receiving his knighthood, he has traveled the country attending all of the best parties. In addition to being a knight, he is known all over the country, as  the  Ambassador of Joy. He's not a big fellow, but he certainly can command a room. (He's also VERY shiny and difficult to photograph;~) And a peek at my newest W.I.P. Now that I see him again in the pic, I think he looks like he is a "Wip" What do you think? PS: If I do any more this small, the nails will have to be cut back. ~Thought for the day~ Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we're here we might as well dance.

rain and the charmer

Image
The last couple of weeks it has rained and rained and RAINED. Even the farmers in the area are hoping for some sunshine. This year at the Homestead we are having some issues with the grass, but the mushroom "crop" seems to be doing GREAT ;~( Now, what did I do with that saute pan?? ☺ In other news..... I still don't know what his name will be.  I probably won't figure it out until he is done, and he's far from done. But I think he's already turning out to be quite the charmer.

W.I.P.

So far he's turning out just right. He still needs some paint and of course hands and shoes. I am so excited about an idea I have for the shoes We'll see;~)

Dreary...

Image
I know I shouldn't complain, considering the Lower 48 and Canada  are nearly baking in the summer heat, but I am getting a little tired of clouds and rain and 50 some degrees.   I need some sunshine;~( On the upside the flora that the wildlife hasn't dined on  is liking the rain. I think I will take care of some cleaning and bill paying, then take advantage of the bad weather and play with the clay;~) Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Third time's a charm

Image
This was my first try. I didn't like it. For starters it was too long and it seemed to be lop-sided right in front. I had initially wanted to make this a three strand, so I strung three separate strands.  But when I started to put them together 3 seemed too bulky. This one got 'snipped'. This was try number two. Much better balance but way too short. I felt like that guy who keeps cutting the table legs, one at a time and never really gets it level, until it's as short as a coffee table. How did I get it this short??? Plus, I'm not sure how I feel about how I had it come together at the focal bead. This one got 'snipped'. FINALLY, a winner ;~) I love the length, I love the balance, I love the colors. And I didn't let that third strand from the first try go to waste. I decided that I would like to have a matching bracelet, since it was already strung and all ;~) I LIKE! What do you think?
