for no particular reason

"Alaska has about 365 million acres of land. Of that, only about 160,000 acres has been cleared, built on, or otherwise directly affected by people"

As many of you know I live in Alaska and I love it MOST of the time.
I have lived here for over 18 years and have seen VERY little of it.
(Lots of different reasons but we won't get into that right now.)
In an effort to learn a little more about the State in which I reside I decided to do a little research and I came across a very informative and enjoyable site.
It is maintained by a fellow named Douglas Gates.
He lives in Soldotna / Kenai, Alaska
(No I don't know him personally, I got the info off the site)
You can visit yourself by clicking the link above or click here.

Some of the trivia I already knew and some I didn't.
At any rate, I find all of it quite interesting and thought
I would include at least one, sometimes two interesting bits of
Alaska trivia with each post.
The one today is at the beginning, but I don't know if I
want them at the beginning or the end.
If I keep them at the beginning,  you can get your Alaska trivia
and move on without having to endure the remainder of the post.
But them if I put them at the end
you could always scroll very quickly to the bottom.
( I promise I won't try to hide them in the middle ☺)
Which would you like best?
Beginning or end?

A little trivia I already knew...

The river that I showed you in this post
Matanuska Glacier

Starts right here at the
Matanuska Glacier.
Matanuska Glacier Park sits on the edge of the glacier
at Mile 102 of the Glenn Highway.
( I live at Mile 65.6 in case you want to come visit )

And for no particular reason...

My collection of heart shaped rocks ☺
~so far~

  1. Long ago in a land far far away (ok, it was here in Alabama but long long ago...)I had a friend from Alaska. He shot video for me showing AK's beauty (with the camcorders of old) on one of his trips home. It immediately went on my life list to visit.

The danger is that I might not leave.

  2. I would put them at the beginning:) And I think that blessing us with trivia is a good thing. Thank you.
